The Importance Of Nanny Background Checks

Remember, your nanny will play the role of a dummy mom in your absence from the house. Thus pay every single attention you can before you select a nanny for your child. Your child requires the best of all things ? best care, best atmosphere and, loads and loads of care, attention and love. Since you are unable to provide him the utmost care due to some reason, you are hiring a domestic helper to fill up the gap. Hence it is almost compulsory that you are fully assured of her honesty and security towards your child and your house. And to do that you need to do nanny background checks on all of the potential hires.

To have a fully satisfactory bio-data of your nanny is not necessary but almost essential. And after being satisfied with it, comes the part of verification. It is most important for you to check accurately to all the details provided by her by doing nanny background checks. Any false information given by her should immediately lead you to drop her. Here are some important tips that you must undergo before appointing a nanny for your baby.

First and most importantly, it is necessary to have at least 3 references given by your nanny. She must be able to provide every little detail that you ask for and you must ask as if you have the right to do so. After going through the interview the references she provided must be checked thoroughly. If necessary go ahead and ask questions to them about her like, when did she join? How long was she there? How was her performance? Etc, etc. This is just the first step to good nanny background checks.

It is essential for you to make your nanny fill up an application form before she starts off. This application form must cover all the details about her including her name, address, phone-number, date of birth, education and experience, and above all, her identity proof. After she pens down all the information it becomes your duty to investigate and do thorough nanny background checks. If she provides you with names of her close relatives or friends, you should verify them. If you find any information any misleading it is advisable to reject the candidate. And if you find her convincing, then you may go ahead and keep her.

It is always best to be straightforward in whatever you do. You should inform the person that you require verification on her background and make her sign an agreement with an authorized statement declaring you will be doing nanny background checks. If she hesitates then it is better to forget about her. If the task of verification becomes difficult for you, there are plenty of online background-check services available today. These agencies are reliable and take up all the responsibilities to find out everything about your nanny. These agencies are quite reasonable and very efficient in their work. Their work includes social security verification, national criminal search, sex abuse registry check, medical review and drug screening.

Last of all and most importantly, you must rely on your own intuition. It your intuition does not support you, meaning you do not feel confident about your child?s nanny, never make a mistake of handling over your baby to her. After all, a mother?s instinct can judge the best for her child?s security. It is just the nanny background checks will help.

Tenant Credit Report and Background Checks

If not a common practice, landlords should make it so, to approve prospective tenants only after checking and verifying their credit report and references. Tenant screening alerts one to potential problems before signing of the lease, greatly reducing the risk of entrusting a rental property to problem tenants.

However, before a credit report can be obtained, landlords need to have prospective tenant applicants complete a written application, which should provide all relevant information, such as, name, social security number, etc. required for running credit reports.

But, obtaining the necessary information is not enough, written permission from the applicant to perform a credit check is needed, as well. This could be a clause in the application form or a separate form authorizing the landlord to run a credit check, which the applicant will have to sign before a landlord can go ahead and obtain a credit report.

If a landlord has a large number of applicants for his / her rental property, credit checks can prove to be fairly expensive. Therefore, a landlord can request a prospective tenant to cover the cost. It helps to know beforehand the type of credit report needed, including the agency charges for providing it, so as to be able to request the correct amount from the applicants.

There are many agencies in the business of providing credit checks and other screening services, and while some require a membership fee, there are others who charge only for each report. A landlord of a large rental complex, who has many applicants, would be better of registering as a member of one of these agencies, such as, www.e-renter.com, saving more money due to bulk discounts members are offered.

www.e-renter.com offers many different kinds of services from credit reports, criminal records, evictions records, and FCRA compliant declination letters, online submission to collections, automated decision-making, and how to accept a web based application from your own site. With online access to www.e-renter.com, landlords can order and review reports in seconds.

There are no monthly fees, no minimum billing amounts and no annual fees at www.e-renter.com, one only pays for reports ordered, from consumer credit reports, criminal record searches, eviction histories, ID verifications, business credit reports, etc., including allowing members to generate FCRA compliant declination letters, do online submissions to a collections agency, accept web based rental applications, use decision tables to qualify applicants, and more. Credit reports complete with FICO scores, known credit patterns, employment histories, in addition to the usual information on liens, account balances, and pending judgments are all available at www.e-renter.com.

Utilizing the services of a screening agency helps reduce the time a landlord would have to spend on checking prospective tenant backgrounds, clearing more time for applicant processing and property management.

On a cautionary note, applicants should not be judged solely on the basis of their credit reports. Credit reports while providing valuable insights, do not give the whole picture, as there is no one, who has never run into a rough patch in their life.

Background Checks - It's Better To Be Safe Than Sorry...

'Do a background check first.' How many times have we heard that line before? Background checks refer to a search for information regarding the history of an individual. To put it simply, these are 'quick checks' on a person's character. If there is anything negative found on you through personal history checks, you could end up becoming disqualified for a job position or an educational grant or scholarship.

Background Checks - Who's Checking Up on You?

You may not realize it, but there can be quite a lot of people checking up on you. Potential employers top the list. Companies usually conduct background checks on job applicants primarily as a means to verify the credentials that you may have listed on your resume. Another reason is to check for any criminal record you may have. For instance, a record concerning money may not make you a likely candidate for a financial position in the firm.

Sometimes, landlords also do personal history checks on potential tenants to avoid potentially unruly tenants. Some people even do background checks on people they are dating! But then, in today's times, one cannot be too careful.

The Source of Background Checks

Personal history checks can dig up negative information through various public records and documents. The most obvious one would be if you have a criminal record but information can also be culled from your driving history and your financial or credit standing. If any red flags are found on these records, it could easily break your chances of getting the job you want, a loan you are applying for or that apartment you are trying to rent.

Of course, personal history checks are not just something that can be done to you. YOU can also conduct background checks yourself. Apart from doing a background check on others, you can also conduct them for companies and institutions. Although information regarding the products and services that a company offers is easy to come by, other details such as the legal and financial status, social standing and reputation may require more effort.

Unfortunately, because there are so many cases of mistaken identities and wrongful arrests, background checks cannot be reliable all the time. Sometimes, you would have to conduct additional research and repeat verification steps to ensure that you have the right information.

Background Checks Infiltrate the Internet

Online background checks have gained popularity primarily because it is much cheaper than hiring a private detective to do it for you. The most obvious route would be to conduct quick and informal personal history checks through free search engines on the Internet. But this method may provide very little information and there is no guarantee as regards the accuracy of the information.

You can, however, find a company that specializes in doing background checks online. Don't worry; there is hardly any face-to-face communication necessary when personal history checks are online and exchanges can be facilitated through e-mail or online chatting.

There is no additional equipment that needs to be purchased when doing online background checks and you will only be asked to pay a registration fee by these companies. Sometimes in as less as one day to a maximum of three days, you can get the results of your personal history checks already. Some companies even offer you data storage for all the background check inquiries that you have requested from them so that they can be obtained 'on demand'.

So interested in looking to something or someone? Try and conduct online background checks.

Free Criminal Records And Background Checks - Secrets You Need To Know

The employee is a vital part of a company's business. In fact, one can even say that the employee makes a company for surely without him, the company can never be. Employees are the workforce that keeps a company going. They serve as the fuel that keeps business operations going like a well-oiled machine. For this reason, hiring individuals to become prospective employees of a company are serious matters of interest and one that can never be relegated as dismal.

Why Conduct Free Criminal Records and Background Checks?

That is an understandable question to ask. With the prices quoted by public records researchers these days, why indeed. However, if the hiring process is the key to keeping the business intact for a long time, then free criminal records and background checks are what make the hiring process thorough and exhaustive.

Free criminal records and background checks helps a company make better-informed decisions during the pre-employment screening. The information they provide are indispensable as they are the determinants of a person's character. In a way, free criminal records and background checks are steps that a company can take to protect its own interest. There have been too many cases in the past wherein no background checks whatsoever was made on an individual and so when that individual was hired as an employee and then later on committed a crime in the context of his or her job, the company was held liable.

Negligence particularly on issues concerning negligent hiring, supervision, security, training, and retention can not only cause loss in productivity but at the extreme end, workplace violence as well that could very well cost the lives of other employees. And thus, it is the responsibility of the company as well as a right to protect its assets and interests, including its employees from incidents that may arise due to the lack of free criminal records and background checks.

State Requirement

Several states in the U.S. have laws requiring free criminal records and background checks during the pre-employment process. States, such as Florida, are especially particular about free criminal records and background checks on certain industries where "care" is provided as a service. Thus, any prospective employee or volunteer of a facility for the elderly, children, and people with disabilities are required by state statute and by federal law to undergo free criminal records and background checks.

Today, 29 states in the United States keep central repositories for the purpose of providing information to those conducting free criminal records and background checks. As of this time, there is no known "national" database of criminal history information and the most you could do to conduct a nationwide search is to visit each state repository individually. Fortunately, the Internet has made it possible for you to do this right on your computer screen.

What shows up on a criminal record background check?

A criminal record background check can throw up a lot of information on an individual including previous arrests as well as conviction and non-conviction information. The information is obtained from Federal Fugitive files, files from the Department of Corrections prison, state criminal records, databases on sex offenders, and prison parole records. There are various agencies that perform criminal record background checks; these agencies have access to more than 200 million criminal records from all across United States, local courthouses, and the National Criminal File.

The information revealed in criminal record background checks is of critical importance to employers of all kinds. Childcare institutions are extra careful about recruiting personnel and check if the prospect has a record for child molestation. Employers, such as infirmaries and hospitals need to make ensure that their workers do not have a history of violent behavior or drug abuse as they may be required to handle drugs.

Industries that execute government contracts will not want employees with an anti-establishment disposition or with a terrorist connection. The information provided by a criminal record background check can also help neighborhood communities to get an idea about individuals planning to move in. The process of obtaining criminal record information consists of contacting a company that provides such a service; one should have a clear understanding of the type and extent of information required. This helps in obtaining the information quickly and at a lower cost. All the same, there are some free resources as well, such as the local police station that may be maintaining an online database of convicts and sex offenders.

A standard criminal record background check includes the name, race, gender, D.O.B, number of offenses, date of conviction, risk level, and charges. The information provided can be used not only by employers but also by landlords who wish to do a background check on prospective tenants. This is because simple credit checks are no longer considered sufficient; it is perfectly possible for a person to have a good credit record but some other blot on his record.

The growth of the Internet has resulted in burgeoning sex crimes and online frauds. Often face-to-face meetings set up after online acquaintance end up in an unpleasant experience for one party. This can be avoided by running a criminal record background check. At the same time, the Internet has also made it easy for people to look up the backgrounds of others. In fact, many databases provide criminal background checks for people not only in the U.S but also in Canada and the U.K. One should keep in mind that in order to avoid getting caught in a criminal case, a background check from a traditional agency should be obtained. A check done from agencies providing instant checks may not yield complete results.

What's the best background check company?

A good background check company will facilitate the hiring process for an organization by providing them with accurate and up-to-date details of their candidates. The company should have the resources to retrieve in short time information such as credit records, social security numbers, driving record, criminal records, and educational background.

Background research companies must operate in sync with softwares such as Applicant Tracking Systems and Human Resources Management Systems that their client companies might use. This will help both parties to exchange information quickly and smoothly. Organizations value background research companies that help them in their hiring decisions and aid in minimizing instances of hire-and-fire that result in an additional burden on the company.

Good background check companies will have reliable resources of information such as individual researchers who may be their employees or individual contractors. These individuals gather information on people as per the directions given to them. The companies may also buy the information from resellers who collect data such as employment records. Courthouses are a good source of criminal records. Also, there are several data aggregators who provide access to credit bureaus as well as federal and state information resources. The veracity of the information offered by trustworthy background research companies can always be checked and these companies update their databases continuously.

A good background research company will be in a position to offer its clients quick turnaround time. This is because the longer it takes for information to be made available, greater is the cost involved in the operation and the chances of error. The background research company obtains its information from various sources and the process of obtaining data can be time consuming, especially if traditional means of communication such as letters or faxes. Even if the information is emailed, there are bound to be requests for clarifications from the research company, the back and forth communication will invariably lead to a loss of time. Companies that have an integrated information flow which is standardized and is also implemented by their business partners will provide information fast and will be preferred for a repeat job by client companies.

A good background research company understands the importance of entering into a contractual agreement with its clients with regard to the nature of information to be collected, the contact points in their company, and the time-frame for submitting the information. The background research company must be insured against errors and omissions and should be well-versed with federal and state requirements regarding the procedures to be followed for obtaining information. A good background research company will never violate the rights of a prospect as doing so can compromise the position of its clients.

Personal background check

A personal background check enables employers to get an idea of an applicant's professional and emotional fit with reference to company credo. The background check can begin with a reference check that covers both personal and professional references. A review of credit reports offers useful insight and concrete information regarding an employee. The type and number of credit accounts and the bill-paying record is a fair indicator of an individual's suitability, particularly for accounts-related positions. The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows employers to utilize information available in an individual's credit record in order to assess their suitability for a job. Details provided in a credit report serve as a useful counter-check for information made available by the applicant.

Employers should take care that their personal background check resources are verifiable and that they do not violate privacy and equal opportunity legislations. Information obtained during a personal background check helps the company to build a clear picture of the applicant; the information can include criminal records, debt, age, past residences, marital status, and past jobs. The information provided by third-parties is usually marked "verified" or "unverified". This helps companies to decide quickly whether they wish to entertain a job application or not. In order to obtain a well-rounded picture of an individual, the personal background check company may gather information from friends and neighbors of the applicant. The company requesting a personality background check should try and obtain information relevant to the nature of the job so that no time is wasted hunting for redundant information.

Companies can outsource a personality background check depending upon the extent of information desired. Often, it is cheaper if companies conduct a personal background check in-house as they can obtain the information required from the county and state information databases.

As the name suggests, personal background checks can reveal deeply personal information and traits about an individual that can be useful to not only employers but also to landlords who may not wish to have tenants that have a history of loose conduct. Such checks are also done by parents to learn more about prospective spouses.

How to order an online background check

The spread of the Internet has resulted in easy access to information. Background check agencies now provide their services online. The advantages of online background checks include swifter results at low cost and easy communication during and after the background check is complete. An employer desirous of an online background check can approach any of the various companies offering the service. To order an online background check, a company would have to register online with the background check provider. Registration involves offering information about the business and paying a one-time processing fee. The online background check companies also offer registration via toll-free calling. Most online background check companies do not charge a monthly service fee and there are no minimum background check requirements. Payment options include credit cards and services such as PayPal. Companies need to clarify the type of check and the amount of detail required. To avail the services of an online background check company, one does not need any on-premise equipment except a computer connected to the Internet. Online background check reports generated as per a client's request are stored on the background check company's website for quick perusal and retrieval. Before requesting an online background check, it is important for a company to have written permission from the applicant. These online background checks help companies in exercising due diligence while recruiting employees. The checks are customized as per the requirements of the company. The results are made available in 1-3 working days from an online check being ordered.

How an employee background check works

Over the past few years pre-employment background checks have gained significance for employers big and small. Companies can either execute the required activities in-house or can outsource them to human resource companies that specialize in carrying out background checks.

There is a lot of paper-work, co-coordination, and follow-up that goes into conducting a background check and for this reasons companies prefer to get the job done by an outside agency. The background checks have to be done in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). According to the FCRA, an individual who earns less than $ 75,000 per annum cannot be reported for criminal acts that are more than seven years old. Also, the checks can only be done with the signed consent of a job seeker.

Companies that wish to execute background checks should do so as a matter of policy and should make this known to job seekers. This acts as a deterrent for applicants who intend to hide information. if an external agency is hired to do the check then one should check if the agency is conversant with FCRA requirements, relevant state and federal laws, and the equal employment opportunity laws. The sources from which the company obtains its information should be verifiable. Normally, the information is acquired from consumer reporting agencies that report on education, credit history, and criminal records.

A standard employee background check verifies driving and credit records, employment background, Social Security Number, education, and military background. The check can also include drug tests and checking on references provided. The nature of the background check varies with job requirements, for example drivers are normally subjected to a stricter reference check and their motor-vehicle records are looked at more closely. Similarly, the credit records of accountants and those who may be required to manage a company's finances are scrutinized more than the records of others.

When availing the services of an outside agency, factors such as the extent of the check, nature of information desired, contact points at both ends, and person assuring the accuracy of information provided should be decided beforehand. The contract between an employer and a third party Human Resource company should address privacy and discrimination laws, timeframe for submitting information, indemnities, insurance against errors and omissions, and evidence of professional liability.

Employers should compare the data obtained from various sources during the process of a background check. Information in a job applicant's resume should be checked with facts stated in the job application. There should be no inconsistencies in the information provided in the cover letter and facts offered during the interview. Common things that are cross-checked include the Social Security number, education, and the date of birth.

Is an instant background check even possible?

Given that there are more than 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States and that information on U.S citizens is scattered across various databases all over 3,142 counties, it is safe to conclude that an instant background check is not possible at present. Yet, there are innumerable companies that purportedly offer instant background checks. These checks are offered at very low rates and sometimes are done free-of-charge. The apparent speedy dispensation of information and low cost are the main reasons that employers try out this option.

As of now the unavailability of a universal database on American citizens means that a background check can take time and requires a fair amount of follow-ups and co-ordination. Companies offering instant background checks have mushroomed because the demand for background screening has gone up and H.R departments are invariably stressed for time. However, what one needs to understand is that outsourcing background checks is a recent phenomenon and there are still no standards set regarding the extent of information to be mined and the manner in which the information should be construed. Companies that opt for instant background checks often end up losing money instead of saving it. The cost of a thorough background check that covers criminal records, education, driving records, and drug tests is well worth the money spent because it is far less than having to recruit an employee all over again if a job-seeker once selected and trained turns out to have a record less than satisfactory. The costs that a company may face if an unqualified employee is made to leave include rehiring, retraining, loss in productivity, healthcare, as well as potential lawsuits.

Instant background checks may be possible if the database is on the residents of a limited area such as a county or even a state. In such a scenario, it can provide efficient pre-employment screening including social security number checks and employment credit reports. It is important to understand that in order to provide instant credit checks the databases need to be updated in real-time so that changes in an individual's records can be incorporated.

For instant background checks to become the norm, several technically innovative solutions will need to be implemented. These solutions would enable the installation of registration depots across the country that would contain records such as the name, date and place of birth, social security number, photograph, fingerprints, and driving records of individuals. This information would be fed to a central database that would be accessible from anywhere in the United States. An instant background check would not only help employers but also enable transparent business and help the government in curbing drug running and fraudulent activities.

Employment background check

Employment background checks are becoming increasingly common these days. The reasons for this include the fact that negligent hiring lawsuits that result from the actions of an errant employee can damage a company's credibility and lead to hefty fines; companies have become more selective in their choice of employees following the threat of terrorist activities; accepting a resume at face value has resulted in many companies wasting time and money due to frequent hire-and-fire situations. Also, more companies are now conducting employee background checks as information from databases all over the world is available online. Employers are not bound to conduct an employment background check in all cases; however, federal and state laws make employment background checks compulsory for jobs that require interacting with children, the infirm, and the aged.

Information that can be included in an employment background check includes driving records, details of past employments, criminal records, military records, educational records, character references, and drug test records. However, background check companies that provide information to employers have to abide by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) which regulates the type and amount of information that an external agency can provide to an employer. Bankruptcies that are more than 10 years old as well as civil suits and records of arrest more than seven years old cannot be reported. FCRA regulations vary with the state and agencies that carry out a pre-employment background check need to ensure that they comply with the state regulations.

Employment background checks can be conducted by companies in-house or can be outsourced to third parties that may include private investigators, H.R firms that screen applicants, and data brokers who are established online. Outsourcing an employment background check has its advantages but if a third-party is conducting a background check, consent from the applicant is required and under FCRA regulations the applicant should be provided with a copy of the investigations. If the employment background check is conducted in-house, the employer is not bound to obtain the applicant's consent or apprise him in detail of the reason for rejecting his application.

Criminal background check

Background checks are a useful screening and selection tool for companies. Of the many types of background checks, criminal background checks are routinely carried out by employers to ensure that they are not courting a risk of physical and mental trauma. In fact, in several states in the U.S, criminal background checks are compulsory for prospects who apply for positions in places such as nursing homes, educational institutions, and adult care centers.

Firms that do background checks have access to records in county courthouses and databases in various states that contain information on those convicted or charged with felony, misdemeanor, or criminal act. Upon receiving a request from a client, the firm researches the county records of the individual's place of residence. The information required for initiating a search includes the first, middle, and last names, social security number, date of birth, and county of residence. The results can be obtained from county, state, and federal resources.

The most detailed information is usually obtained from the county courts; it can include criminal charges, dates, the sentence, and disposition. County courts also provide dockets and supporting information upon request. The amount and detail of information available in repositories across states in the U.S can vary. The information supplied will be a compilation of records gathered from police departments and the local courts. For information on criminal acts that take place outside a state or local jurisdiction, federal records are referred. The criminal activities covered in federal records include drug trafficking, dealing in stolen materials, kidnapping, arson, and dacoity. The time required for obtaining information from the county and federal records can vary from one to three days. The turnaround time for information from state records varies with the state.

Background checks can also be requested from government organizations such as the Department of Justice. The information provided is limited to criminal history information and will not provide data on the status of immigration and consumer credit data. Since there is no national database on criminals, the most effective way of obtaining information on criminals is through person-to-person communication between the background check company and the court house. Although low-tech, this is a quick method for unearthing relevant criminal information about an individual with reference to a particular job.

What's the best background check software?

There are several background check softwares available online. Most of them are available in a similar price range. However, what sets good background check software apart from the myriad others are features such as:

* Ease of download and compatibility: The software should be easy to download and run instantly. Free and timely software updates should be installed automatically and the software should be compatible with the different Internet-related software and operating systems.

* Online help: The vendor's website should have detailed FAQ and Help sections that explain the manner in which the software is to be used; tips and tutorials are provided and customer queries are answered.

* Ease of use: A good software should be easy to use, with query fields designed to return the most pertinent results for a given search.

* Legal to use: The software should be completely legal for use in all manner advertised by the company. Its sources of information should be verifiable and information it dispenses should be obtained legally.

There are other factors too that distinguish a good background check software; these include a well-updated database that draws from various resources. Also, the databases accessed have to be relevant to the type of background checks provided otherwise looking up a background is likely to turn into an exercise in futility. The background check software should facilitate checking of criminal records; looking up one's own family history; locate listed as well as unlisted phone numbers; obtain information on birth, death, and social security numbers, find people by name, phone number; or email.

Good background check software should make it worthwhile for employers who invest time and money in it and prefer it over agencies that offer a similar service. This means that it should enable accurate screening of prospective employees and provide information on their credit scores, criminal and driving records.

There's a plethora of services that properly created background check software connected to a database can offer. These would cover locating individuals based on their past residence, school of graduation, and year of military retirement. Greater to which a database can go back in time better are the chances of coming up with information on a lost acquaintance or colleague. There are softwares that also help people in doing a background check on organizations worldwide so one can have a fair idea of their business ethics, legal opinions, and lists of fugitives so that one can do a background check on anyone who arouses suspicion in the neighborhood.

Thus, the best software would be the one that provides reliable information on individuals, property and real estate, bankruptcies and lien, criminals, and any kind of information that is available in the public domain.

Stanley Alpin recommends Background Check Guide for more information on the best background check software.

Today, numerous companies conduct background checks, including several firms that offer their services over the Web. And while it's important to find a company that's competent at verifying credentials, it's also crucial to check for the right things. "The level of deception that exists is frightening. A lot of people think nothing of misrepresenting their qualifications and lying about past events," says Lou Adler, president of Power Hiring. In the past, courts have consistently ruled that employers are liable for the actions of their workers while on the job -- a fact that makes screening even more imperative.

Depending on the particular position, it might be necessary to check applicants' driving records, criminal history, educational achievements, and references, and to verify whether they actually worked where they say they did. Foreign workers must have an H-1B visa, and obtaining information from foreign institutions can prove difficult. Further complicating things is the easy availability of false documents over the Internet and, increasingly, outright identity theft. "An employment offer should be conditional on passing a background check," observes Jane Paradiso, recruiting solutions practice leader at Watson Wyatt Worldwide. "These days, the stakes are too great to ignore."

The Importance Of Criminal Background Checks

A criminal check is a part of the background check done for pre-employment screening. A criminal background check has become an inexpensive way of legally obtaining details about a person. The details of the person can even be provided to the companies through their websites online and the results would be produced as soon as possible depending on the extent of the background check required.

A criminal check can be done by investigating the criminal history of the person that would be recorded in the criminal record manuals of the courts. Each state would contain the details of all the individuals having a criminal background in their respective courts. A nationwide search might prove to be tougher since there is no general national database being maintained and open to the public that might provide the list of all the criminals in the country.

Since state records are only able to provide the criminal history of a person in that state, it might be difficult to rule out the option of that individual having committed some crime in some other state. The only option would be to believe that a criminal would not move too far away from their home to commit a crime.

A criminal check begins with the verification of the personal details of the individual. Authentication of the SSN might be able to provide some valuable information about the person. With the help of this information, the criminal check is made easier and might produce quicker results. However, this might sometimes be misleading since a fake SSN can be purchased on the street and, unless a check is conducted, it would be next to impossible to verify the authentication of that particular SSN.

Along with the SSN, the person's credit history and driving history can also provide some valuable information that might prove useful during a criminal background check.

Employee Criminal Background Check

Employee criminal background checks have become a compulsory part of the interview process. This is because the employee might be liable for an inattentive hiring charge if the employee turns out to have a criminal, drug abuse, or sexual harassment conviction in their background that was not revealed because the employer neglected to conduct a criminal background records search before employment. Any inappropriate or indecent acts carried out by the employee will give the other employees a right to blame the employer.

A few background checks that are conducted as a part of pre-employment screening are SSN verification, criminal background check, credit check, and also a driving history check in a few companies. The SSN can provide a number of personal details concerning an individual. The driving history provides details such as bad or reckless driving records or drug abuse problems. This data can be obtained from the local DMV. Also, the motorist history can provide the details of accidents, and behavior with the court summons when given a ticket for illegal parking etc. Drug abuse and such other problem might be able to provide an insight about the attitude of a person and usually helps the employer refuse the application on these grounds.

A credit history can prove to be helpful when the company provides the employees with a corporate credit card. Also, if an individual has a history of bankruptcy, then providing the corporate credit card to that individual might not prove to be a very safe decision.

A background check also includes a previous employer check and verification of the referrals and the data provided in the applicant?s resume. The information provided by the investigator can be verified by the data provided by the applicant. Falsified resumes might seem very attractive when first produced but might prove to be harmful when the real details turn up during an investigation.

Pre-employment screening usually includes the substance abuse investigations as this might make the employee reckless, drowsy, and not interested in the work, along with the astronomical medical bills that the company needs to bear on behalf of the employee. Sexual abuse is another aspect to be considered, especially when the employee would be dealing with women and children.

The employer must also consider the history of worker?s compensation. If the person is fond of suing the previous employees as per the records produced during investigations, it is possible that the employee might look for ways to sue the present company also. The employer might have to consider this before hiring the applicant.

Free Criminal Background Check

Many investigation companies advertise free background checks on their websites, but for any background checks required in business that involves collecting some quality and accurate information, spending money for a professional background investigation would still be the best option. Free background checks do exist but are not the proper choice when it comes to jeopardizing a business or a company. Although not a good option when an exhaustive search is essential, a free background check can provide some enlightening basic information about an individual.

One of the first searches in a free criminal background search is the fundamental records search. This could unearth some of the basic information such as the date of birth and other personal details of the individual. Since this search usually produces information about the specifics of the individual, they can be used for further background search about the person.

SSN authentication can reveal a gamut of information about an individual. The SSN can be verified from the records existing with the DMV. Since a falsified SSN would look similar to the original one, the truth can be revealed only during the investigation. A driver's license could be another option with which to conduct an investigation. Though the driving history is not open to the public, investigators can persuade the officials to give access to these records if the investigation is legal.

The DMV also has access to an individual?s personal details as well as the addresses of all the places where the individual has previously resided and is currently residing. So a legal investigator would be able to obtain these details with ease from the DMV.

These are some of the basic details that can be unearthed by anyone or by companies providing free background criminal search. However, an exhaustive and in depth search would entitle spending a lot more along with taking up a bit of time while waiting for an accurate and extensive report to be delivered.

Criminal Background Check Forms

A criminal background check is an integral part of the pre-employment screening process presently. It is the duty of the employer to ensure that employees are provided a safe and secure environment, and screening an applicant can go a long way to ensure this sort of atmosphere in the company or office.

In order to run a background check, the employer must have some basic details about the applicant. These details can be obtained by providing the applicant with an application to be filled as part of the interview process. The application would be sent to an investigative agency for background check on these details. The applicant must always put in only valid data in the application since falsified data might jeopardize the chance of getting the job.

The application can help the agencies check into the educational, employment, driving, and credit history of the applicant. Though a statewide research normally provides details of a criminal background, a nationwide search might be necessary if the applicant is from out of state or has been a frequent traveler to completely rule out criminal history in the applicant?s past. In the event the applicant has a drug problem or was convicted on sexual harassment charges anytime in the past, the details would be unearthed with little effort on the agent?s part.

Alternatively, companies can provide the details of the applicants on the agency?s websites online. The investigators would get back within a specific amount of time depending on the data requested by the customer. Also, the criminal check applications can be collected from the specific regions in each state and these would be mailed to the applicant?s place automatically.

All the employers must mention to the applicants that background check is a part of the interview process and that the application must be filled and submitted compulsorily.

Criminal Background Checks: A Necessity In Our Society?

http://criminal--background-check.blogspot.com

Everyday the news tells of violence in the workplace and sex offenders on the prowl. The scary thing is that you usually never know who these people might be until it's too late. How many times have you seen an interview of someone describing an accused criminal as the nicest person you could ever know? They would have never suspected this person of committing any crime until the crime had already been commited. A criminal background check could have easily put up a red flag about this person and it might have prevented a future incident.

With the popularity of internet dating, the threat of sex offenders seems to increase daily. It is estimated that the number of Americans using online dating services like myspace.com and match.com is in the tens of millions. Sex offenders now have easy access to millions of potential victims. So how do you protect yourself? You should obtain a criminal background check on anyone you meet online before ever agreeing to meet with them and never agree to be alone with them until you feel safe. When your safety is in question, don't take a chance: get a criminal background check.

Violence in the workplace also seems to be on the rise. According to USA Today, an average of one employee is killed in the workplace every week in the United States. Furthermore, at least 20 workers are seriously injured in violent attacks by a current or former employee. How could these brutal attacks have been prevented? In most cases, a criminal background check could have revealed a history of violence and may have prevented many incidents from occuring. It is now more important than ever to know if someone has a criminal background or history of violence before you hire them.

The process of obtaining a criminal background check on someone used to be a hassle. It took someone with specialized knowledge and a whole lot of effort to gain access to public records of all sorts including criminal records and civil records. Now, because of the speed and convenience of the internet, obtaining a criminal background check on virtually anyone in the United States (and even Canada and the U.K.) could not be any easier. Whether someone has an unpaid parking ticket, or has been convicted of a felony, these public records are all available to anyone.

A criminal background check can and should be used in any situation where safety or trust is an issue. It is extremely difficult for anyone to know you are investigating them so you can conduct one in complete anonymity. Don't become a victim of violence when you can protect yourself in such an easy and valuable way: do a criminal background check.

Undergoing a Criminal Background Check

I have worked as a teacher and as a therapist and for both careers, I have had to have a criminal background check. This precautionary step is a great screening tool for employers who hire people who work with children. Recently, I have come across a few news articles that involve people who work with children who have a criminal record. Not everyone who works with children is required to have a criminal background check. This is a very disturbing trend and many school districts and childcare providers are taking steps to assure that their employees have a criminal background check before going into the field.

In addition to the criminal background check, many employers are requiring that employees have a clearance check that involves a history of child abuse. This is another screening tool that is essential for people who are going to work with children because it checks for crimes specific to children. A person may not pass a criminal background check because he was caught shoplifting when he was eighteen. The person may be a model citizen and he may be very good with children, but he will probably not secure a position because of the criminal background check.

Recently, I had to be fingerprinted to complete clearances for the University of Phoenix online education program. The state of Arizona requires teachers to have a fingerprint clearance in addition to the traditional criminal background check. I wasn't concerned about the results of the fingerprint background check, but I did have to take my five-month-old daughter to the police station so mommy could get fingerprinted by the local police.

For some reason I did not give a second thought to the criminal background check, but the fingerprint clearance gave me bad dreams. I guess that it had to do with having to take a baby to a police station or just good old-fashioned guilt, but I kept dreaming that the fingerprints came up in an investigation for a major crime. The dreams were really disturbing and I told my husband that I must have a guilty conscious. He thinks that it has to do with the realization that the Federal Government makes the fingerprint clearance and I'm beginning to see things on a larger scale.

Maybe the guilty dreams have to do with the fact that no one is perfect. We have all made mistakes and we have all had to face the consequences for our mistakes. Passing a criminal background check is no problem for a law-abiding citizen like me, but passing a fingerprint background check seems to strike me on a more personal level. After all, a part of me is literally cleared through the state. I guess that I realize that I am not perfect and I should feel lucky to have an opportunity to touch the lives of our children through my career.
